ARC Coral Reef Excellence visitors to KMRS
27-28 October, 2011
Representatives from the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies based at James Cook University in Townsville, QLD, visited KMRS to view local coral reef systems at Cygnet Bay.
Centre Director Professor Terry Hughes from JCU and Chair of the Board Dr Brian Walker from Canberra dropped in to Cygnet Bay with their wives to get a feel for both the local coral reefs and the research station facilities.
With equinox spring tides it was a great opportunity to view near-shore coral reefs and, in a whirlwind effort, Terry managed to identify over 50 species of shallow water hard corals exposed at low tide.
KMRS extends a huge thank you to Terry, Brian, Laura and MaryJo for taking the time to visit and for kindly sharing your expertise with us!
